The last time I was here was so long ago, Mai's has had a facelift and shares the building with another restaurant. It's nice and inviting inside, still simple but a great place to grab a meal. My friend, JW, and I came back to explore this place and I am so glad we did. She ordered the spicy chicken lunch special that came with sauteed veggies and an eggroll with fish sauce.

I ordered the tofu clay pot AND a single grilled pork spring roll. The spring roll hit the table first and the pork was still warm inside! Very tasty with the peanut sauce that I added Sriracha to. My extra spicy tofu pot was steaming all the way through the meal, pilled high with lightly fried tofu chunks. Mushrooms and some other yummy veggies were mixed in with the clear glass noodles. Most of all, I let the thin layer of rice on the bottom stay on the bottom until it became crispy and a little burnt - exactly how I like it!

I got so full during lunch, I had to pause and take the rest to go. I finished it off when I got back to the office. The rice was still crispy too. I like that Mai's has a lot of interesting items to try. Go ahead and branch out. You'll be glad you did. Life is too short for boring food.

I wanted to go to Khao Noodle Shop, but the line was crazy, it was getting late and I had to be up early the next morning. The restaurant was rather over-air conditioned, and I thought about leaving so that I didn't freeze--I asked them if they could make it a little warmer, though I'm not sure they did--but I didn't want to run all over town on a Saturday night.

I started with the rocket shrimp, which was fried shimp that came accompanied by lettuce, cilantro and fish sauce. I'm honestly not sure why it's called "rocket" shrimp, and the flavor gets a little lost in the deep fry, but the lettuce and cilantro were fresh, and it's a solid dish (though on the pricey side). I then had vermicelli with grilled pork and egg roll. I was hoping for more herbs here, and the egg roll wasn't at the level of a place like LA's Golden Deli in terms of flavor or texture. Also, the only spicy option on the table was bottled sriracha. Maybe they have the spicy version of nuoc cham (i.e. with chilis) upon request, but it would have been nice to see it on the table.

Service was friendly, and ultimately I think this fits pretty well into Yelp's A-OK rubric.

We can here from out of town and found this Vietnamese spot to satisfy. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE EVER HAD AUTHENTIC VIETNAMESE FOOD!

First, it should've been a sign of the quality when we entered at 5pm on a Saturday, during what should normally be peak hours for restaurants and no one was there. But okay, maybe it was the hot weather that kept people from eating warm hot soupy food. The server that took our order was a bit rude when taking our order and didn't seem very happy to be there. Again, not uncommon with any other Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to.

When the food came out, one of our group member's food was wrong even though we specifically gave her the number of the item that correlated with the dish. Instead of moving to fix the mistake, she just walked off and looked at us like we were crazy. If anyone has ever had Bun Bo Hue they know that it's cooked with lemon grass and has pork and sponge cake. Being someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, I know that restaurants tend to use certain soup base across the board. The pho broth that was put into this dish was so plain, I think it was just made from boiled water...

Long story short, it was just BAD Food and service!

I gave in and "Postmate-d" food from here after Martha Stewart kept bugging me on TV to do so.  I wanted some pho and learned quickly that this isn't the place to get pho...or vermicelli dishes...or summer rolls...or possibly anything Vietnamese?  Unless you're pairing it with cans of wine of course.  Then heck, with your standards they clearly deserve your business.

There's only one type of beef pho and the meat is generously well done like it shouldn't be.  However, you're given plenty since you're the quantity over quality kind of person.

The pork that comes with the vermicelli dish is so thin, flat and tough in texture.  It was almost like little bits of jerky.  I'm surprised Pat Baby even ate it.

The summer rolls are pretty basic without the sauce because the majority of it is noodles and maybe one piece of lettuce and some shrimp. It could do with some herbs like I've had at other places, but at least you can cover the roll in sauce and it will taste fantastic either way.

Part of me thinks there is a decent dish here, so I'll likely try something different next time Martha Stewart bugs me again.

I almost never give 1/5 stars but this is warranted. What could've been 3-4 starts quickly spun to 1 when we found a bug in the food.

For starters, the server asked us what we wanted to order as soon as we sat down. We said we needed more time and she came back in 2 minutes asking again. We still weren't ready but ordered by the 3rd time (after being there all of 6 minutes total) because we felt pressured.

The shrimp and chicken spring rolls were very good. They were fresh and the peanut sauce was yummy. The shrimp curry bowl had an odd flavor and the spiciest level was still very bland. My friend got the beef curry bowl and the beef was very chewy and just tasted off.

But the experience plummeted when my friend found a bug in her beef bowl. She told the manager and he comped her order but the lady came to the table afterwards give us very mean looks.

Needless to say we won't be back
